God is crucified in Iraq today
Again
God cried in the voices of thousands
here, there, everywhere
Pharaoh did not listen
Cries for peace
for God’s Shalom
were silenced when the first missile was dropped on Baghdad
I heard God crying out
in the voices of the Iraqis
in the voices of the whole world
Father, why have you forsaken me?

Today is Friday
and Jesus is crucified again
in Iraq, in the US,
in the world
I run to sacred space
to remember that there is hope,
Light
Power
when two or three get together
to celebrate life
believing that Friday will be over
and Sunday will come
