Bridgeport UCC is a small church with a big mission. Our Ministries live out our call to care for one another and reflect God's love in the world. All are welcome to participate!
In our Bridgeport Gardens Ministry, we care for the church gardens and grounds, fostering a connection with our neighbors who we encounter while tending to our gardens. We strive to be good stewards of our land and have incorporated native plants to help improve the health of our urban environment. We have received several grants from various agencies including Ecumenical Ministries, East Multnomah County Soil & Water District, Pollinator Parkways, Depave and the Community Watershed Stewardship Program. With Depave's participation, we turned a section of our parking lot into a bioswale and rain garden with native plants.
We also have several raised garden boxes for vegetable gardens. Much of the produce gets donated or given away to neighbors and congregants.
Our Community Life Ministry supports holiday and family celebrations at Bridgeport. The team hosts family celebrations including marriages, baby dedications and life celebrations. These gatherings nurture the Bridgeport family connections.
Our Extravagant Welcome Ministry provides hospitality by greeting attendees, preparing hot beverages for all to share during Sunday service and providing after service snacks.
Justice & Witness
We are serious about pursuing justice; that is part of who we are and part of being connected to the United Church of Christ. Our current goals for justice work are three-fold: (1) making sure people know how to protect and defend immigrants who are our friends and neighbors; (2) taking a stand against racism in all its forms; and (3), doing something positive to dispel hunger in our community.
Worship & The Arts
Our Worship and The Arts Ministry plans the liturgical year services which involves choosing the readings and decorating the altar. Visuals are chosen that mirror the spirit of the message. We also have a vibrant music ministry and choir.
